Lucille (Anderson) Bogan was born in Amory, Mississippi in 1897.
She recorded four songs in New York in May 1923 before recording two tracks in Atlanta in June 1923 – the first “field recordings” of a blues artist. Only one of those recordings, “The Pawn Shop Blues,” was released.
She later released records for Brunswick, Paramount, and Banner, including under the pseudonym “Bessie Jackson.”
