Fannie Mae Goosby

Fannie Mae (Allen) Goosby was born in Madison, Georgia and attended preparatory school at Atlanta University. She was a singer, composer, and pianist.

She was likely still a teenager in June 1923 when she recorded with Okeh Records in Atlanta on Nassau Street.

Fannie was one of the few female blues singers who wrote her own music. “Grievous Blues,” her song released from those historic Nassau Street sessions, is just one example. She re-recorded it in New York in October 1923 along with five other sides that were released.

She later moved to New York where she performed regularly at the Yeah Man Club in Harlem.
