Remote Recordings

Starting in June 1923, Okeh Records began taking field expeditions with their newly-invented portable recording equipment to record musicians far away from their permanent recording laboratory in New York. Their first trip took them to a vacant building on Nassau Street in Downtown Atlanta where they made 33 recordings, of which 15 were released. Over the course of nine years, Okeh would record 7,615 songs in 28 cities.
